No More CRs

Enough with all these Continuing Resolutions to fund the federal government. Congress needs to pass a budget.

Virginia’s Republican Congressional Delegation rightly voted against today’s CR, which keeps the federal government funded for only one more month.

From an email by Rep. Rob Wittman that had the subject line “No More Continuing Resolutions-“

Today, Congress yet again kicked the can down the road by passing another Continuing Resolution (CR) through December 20. Instead of buckling down and getting spending bills done on time through measured debate, lawmakers took to a last-minute, stop-gap measure to fund the federal government. Another CR is a short-term solution to a long-term problem and is simply something I could not support.

Rep. Denver Riggleman, a member of the House Freedom Caucus, tweeted out-

Rep. Ben Cline tweeted about the problems of the process of this specific CR-

Of course, House Republicans need to take a lot of the blame for the never ending CR substitute to a real budget. Speaker Paul Ryan and Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy had every opportunity to pass a budget and have a Republican president sign it. But those two really dropped the ball on that. Now we are still stuck with McCarthy as Minority Leader, terrible choice.

There is the argument that since Democrats are in the majority it may be better to stall the with CRs until the GOP takes back control. But the whole culture of fake budgets is the problem to begin with. No large organization would dare operate without a budget in place. Only a bloated government can get away with doing business the way the feds do things. And it needs to stop. No More CRs.
