Elliott Harding For State Senate

Albemarle County attorney Elliott Harding is running for State Senate. Harding was certified today as an Independent candidate for the 25th State Senate District. The incumbent in the race is Democrat Creigh Deeds.

There is no Republican nominee in this race and Harding used to serve as the Albemarle County Republican Committee chairman, so this is a lay-up for conservatives in this district. Harding leans libertarian, sometimes lunges libertarian, but his respect for Virginia’s constitution is unquestionable. If elected, Harding will serve his constituents well.

As an attorney, Harding is currently working on a case challenging the age restriction that makes it unlawful for a registered federal firearms dealer to sell a handgun or ammunition for a handgun to a person between the ages of 18 to 21. Harding, a gun owner himself, is a strong advocate for individual freedom, which includes protecting our 2nd Amendment rights. More on that here.

As a Capitol Hill staffer for former Congressman Tom Garrett, Harding helped devise a student loan debt plan that would help sustain social security. Such a plan is appealing to both young and old voters. For more on that plan please check out this article Harding wrote for National Review.

Elliot Harding is an exciting candidate who has this blog’s full support. He is running in a tough, gerrymandered district for Republicans. But that “(I)” next to his name may help with independents and non-partisans. This could be a race to watch.
