The University of Virginia Men’s Basketball Team has won the NCAA Championship, beating Texas Tech 85-77 in an overtime thriller.
Both UVA and Texas Tech are known for having a solid defense. This game showed that. Offense sells tickets while defense and rebounds win championships. That’s how UVA won this season.
The saying in the tournament is “survive and advance.” That saying really captures UVA’s tournament run, which includes two improbable last second comebacks. UVA needed an offensive rebound and buzzer-beater put-back to survive against Purdue in the Elite Eight and then needed three consecutive foul shots with 0.6 on the clock to beat Auburn in the Final Four. And tonight they won the championship in overtime.
