How hard is it to simply say “Happy Independence Day?” Yesterday the Republican National Committee released a pretty standard, boilerplate statement wishing America a happy Independence Day. The Democrats went in the opposite direction and tried to use the holiday as an opportunity to drive a wedge between Americans.

This is ridiculous. Patriotism and self-loathing should not be such obvious indicators of partisan party affiliation. But here we are.
