Rep. Garrett’s Resolution Named ‘Bill of the Month’ By FreedomWorks

Rep. Tom Garrett’s Resolution requiring every congressional bill to be read in its entirety before a vote can take place was named by FreedomWorks as their “Bill of the Month.”

The Resolution is called READ IT, which stands for Review Every Act Diligently In Total. This comes in the wake of how the 2,000+ page omnibus spending bill was quickly passed with little to no time to read it and offer amendments. It is a shame that this kind of resolution needs to be offered but the way the omnibus was rushed illustrates that this is truly needed.

The Resolution calls for a time period “which consists of a number of minutes equal to two times the number of pages of the text of the bill, joint resolution, resolution, or conference report which will be considered.”

In the case of the omnibus spending bill, which congressmen only had a few hours to read, Garrett’s Resolution would have given his colleagues about three days to read and digest it.

Thank you Rep. Tom Garrett for offering this.
