Carbon Tax Detrimental To US Economy

The US House of Representatives passed a resolution “expressing the sense of Congress that a carbon tax would be detrimental to the United States economy.” And they are correct. The resolution passed mostly on a party line vote with Republicans in favor of it.

A carbon tax is a tax enforced on specific industries to penalize them for using fossil fuels. The goal of a carbon tax is to destroy certain companies with a burdensome tax penalty. According to Carbon Tax Center– “If set high enough, [carbon tax] becomes a powerful monetary disincentive that motivates switches to clean energy across the economy, simply by making it more economically rewarding to move to non-carbon fuels and energy efficiency.” That’s really just being a bully with the tax code. And, of course, enforcement of the tax code comes with physical strength of the government so being a bully here is really coercion by the radical left to pick and choose which industries get to survive. The free market should dictate which industries survive and the government should never be authoritative like this.

Right away the far-left organization Climate Hawks Vote released a statement condemning the resolution and calling those who voted for it “climate peacocks.” Their statement said- “We don’t want to reason with Republicans dominated by the fossil fuel industry. We don’t want them to be stakeholders at a table.”

In this case Democrats want to over-tax industry to drive it out of business. There is nothing free market about that. They claim to be for diversity but they don’t want to have anyone “at a table” other than those who agree with them. This is nuts.

A carbon tax, by its design, is suppose to be detrimental to the economy and therefore has no place in a country that champions the free market. Republicans are acting as defenders of both free market principles and the US economy here. This resolution is the right way to go and we applaud those who voted for it.

House Continuing Resolution 119-

Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring), That it is the sense of Congress that a carbon tax would be detrimental to American families and businesses, and is not in the best interest of the United States.
