Rep. Connolly Defends Strzok

Rep. Gerry Connolly of Virginia’s 11th District may be the most partisan minded politician in DC. During the congressional hearing of FBI Agent Peter Strzok Connolly had no problem showing his hard uncompromising partisanship during what was supposed to be an opportunity for Congress to understand the facts behind some of Strzok’s decisions at the FBI. Instead of it being an inquiry, it was just a partisan campaign event and we have Democrats like Connolly to thank for that.

The hearing was about whether or not Strzok abused his position at the FBI to fuel phony investigations about Russian collusion with the Trump campaign. Strzok texted his mistress “We’ll stop it.” During the hearing he admitted that “it” was the Trump campaign. There is a paper trail linking Strzok with the authors of the fake dossier that may have been used by the Justice Department in a FISA court to obtain surveillance warrants on the Trump campaign. Congress has an obligation to investigate this potential abuse of power by the FBI.

Representatives like Trey Gowdy, Jim Jordan, and committee chairman Bob Goodlatte asked questions that sought answers relevant to the investigation. Connolly went another direction. For some reason he read emails from Republicans who criticized Trump during the 2016 election. How the hell is that relevant? He wrapped up his “questions” by saying that Strzok wasn’t alone in criticizing Trump. Well, no shit. Now pay attention, this part is important; Strzok said he would stop the Trump campaign from winning and he had the opportunity as a FBI Agent to follow through with that threat. The emails that Connolly read did not have any threats from a law enforcement agency who was running phony investigations with the aid of false reports.

Connolly doesn’t get it. He’s not bright enough to be a congressman. His baffling performance was the biggest embarrassment from Thursday’s hearings. He just tried to deflect the attention elsewhere. And he did so by blatantly defending a witness who was there to testify. It is not the job of the person asking questions to defend the witness, that the witness’s job. It was ridiculous. If Connolly already had his mind made up then why did he bother to show up and waste everyone’s time? He could’ve walked out just like he walked out of a hearing on what happened in Benghazi. Connolly is a clown. His behavior in any other place of work would result in him getting fired.
