Rally For The Republic

FreedomWorks sponsored a rally at Capitol Hill on Wednesday to support Rep. Jim Jordan as Speaker.

Buses from Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Tennessee brought supports to rally on the Hill on a hot day. The event started in front of the Capitol with a list of speakers that included Freedom Caucus chairman Rep. Mark Meadows, Rep. Matt Gaetz, Rep. Louie Gohmert, Sen. Rand Paul, and, of course, Rep. Jim Jordan.

After the rally the group hit the House office buildings to directly engage members of congress with the message that they need to support Jordan next year as the next Speaker of the House.

For any conservative who is displeased with Speaker Paul Ryan, then you will really not like the so-called next in line for Speaker; Rep. Kevin McCarthy. Usually the vote for Speaker is a coronation for the next in line and with Ryan retiring from elected office at the end of this term, McCarthy and his supporters are hoping for business as usual. Jordan and his supporters are actually trying to have a contest for the very important position. A real contest, with a substantive dialogue, is a healthy procedure for a well-functioning republic. Republicans like contests, Democrats like coronations (see 2016 presidential primaries).

Jordan is a rock-solid conservative who has always believed in transparency and accountability as hallmarks to elected offices. At the rally he said elected officials need to do what they said they would do during their campaigns. Specifically for congressional Republicans, that means lowering the deficit, shrinking the National Debt, and defunding Planned Parenthood, among other things. As Speaker, Jordan will lead the way on those important issues.

Conservatives from all over the nation need to let their Representative know that we will be best served with Rep. Jim Jordan as Speaker.
