Lovejoy For Delegate

Manassas City Councilman Ian Lovejoy will announce his 2019 candidacy for the House of Delegates District 50 on Saturday. Lovejoy has served on the Manassas City Council since 2013. He serves as the Chairman of the Economic Development and Land Use Committee and is one of the youngest elected officials in Northern Virginia.

Lovejoy has been a strong voice on the city council for jobs and economic development. He supports the expansions of Micron Tech and Aurora Flight Sciences, both are companies with plants already in Manassas. Lovejoy has served his community in many ways. He has been a member of over a dozen boards and organizations including City of Manassas Family Services Committee, Prince William Chamber Economic Development Committee, he is the founder of the E. Catherine Cobb Memorial Literacy Grant, and served as president of Manassas City Public Schools Education Foundation. This kind of dedicated civic engagement with his community has connected Lovejoy very closely with the residents he represents. This level of dedication is rarely seen today and will be an asset to Lovejoy should he win the seat for the House of Delegates.

Lovejoy is quoted in PotomacLocal.com

“My main goal is to extend on the type of service that I’ve provided as a councilman in Manassas and that’s citizen-driven focus, citizen engagement, and certainly a focus on jobs and making sure our economy continues to grow. That’s been my focus while on the council and its perspective that I think needs to be taken forward into the House of Delegates,” said Lovejoy.

He has the support of former Delegates Jackson Miller and Rich Anderson, Prince William County Supervisor Jeanine Lawson, former Prince William County School Board Chair Milt Johns, Coles District School Board Member Willie Deutsch, and many other local elected officials, more here.

Lovejoy’s potential opponent is one-term incumbent Delegate Lee Carter, a proud socialist and self-described “male survivor of rape.” Carter’s strict adherence to socialism makes him a horrible choice to represent any part of Virginia. He is the only member of the House of Delegates to claim to be a socialist. His Twitter profile even says, “Ask me about Socialism.” As a Delegate all he has done is complain. He offers no solutions, just whines about how our country is not socialist. Carter’s latest project is to oppose the new jobs that Micron will provide for his district. The Virginia Chamber of Commerce gave him a “F” grade for the 2018 session.

Carter snuck in a win in 2017 riding anti-Trump sentiment after being unopposed for the Democratic nomination. He may face a challenger for the nomination this time. And we can’t expect him to survive a nomination challenge. Earlier this year Carter went on a rant on Twitter exposing all kinds of strange things about his background. His own oppo dump included admitting that he can’t hold down a job, has been divorced three times before age 30, and claims to have been raped by a woman. Carter is an unstable young man who has no business serving in public office.

Below is a photo from WTVR of one of Carter’s colleagues in the House of Delegates (a Democrat) mocking him for being a crazy socialist.

This time around ought to be different for the people of Manassas. In 2017 this district did not return a fine delegate who represented their community well. Buyers remorse has set in. This time sample ballot voters who mindlessly picked a “Democrat” due to anger over Trump won’t be there in such large numbers. With Manassas City Councilman Ian Lovejoy on the ballot potentially versus a socialist who has proven to be a worthless delegate voters can rest assured that their vote can go to a productive member of the local community. Ian Lovejoy will make an outstanding delegate for Manassas and the rest of Virginia.
