Local Newspapers Endorse Republicans In VA05, VA07

Two major local newspapers in Virginia endorsed Republican candidates for the House of Representatives this week. Both endorsements push back against the Democrats’ poorly conceived narrative that Republicans are too “extreme” for anything.

Air Force veteran and local business owner Denver Riggleman was endorsed by Charlottesville’s The Daily Progress

“Mr. Riggleman strikes us as a straight-talker and a trustworthy man. We also agree with many of his campaign positions… Mr. Riggleman’s conservative values, along with that common sense he talks about, would be a welcome addition in Congress.”

Representative Dave Brat was endorsed by Richmond Times-Dispatch

“[Rep. Brat is] one of the most principled members of the U.S. House — an energetic original thinker who’s never afraid to speak truth to power. He brings much-needed economic sophistication and understanding to a national capital sorely deficient in both. He has been relentless in his efforts to educate constituents and colleagues about the rising national debt caused by too much federal spending… His economic expertise and judgment give Brat the edge in a race that was a close call — and we are pleased to endorse his re-election.”

Boom. Those are two impressive endorsements from two well-read newspapers.

For the Democrat nominees running against Riggleman and Brat, they both rolled out the endorsement this week of only one of Elizabeth Taylor’s ex-husbands. One out of seven ain’t terrible.
