Fallout From Terrible Performance At WH Correspondents’ Dinner Continues

This year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner was a dud. President Trump was right not to attend. The MC of the dinner, whatever her name is, bombed. She was terrible.

Her jokes (we think they were supposed to be jokes) were just her pushing the radical left narrative to resist everything that moves from the Trump White House. It is really sad that a night which is meant to be fun for all was turned into a partisan hit show.

It’s all about time and place. Some have come to defend the MC’s performance saying comedy is always edgy and always pushes the envelope. But the White House Correspondents’ Dinner is not the venue for hard-line partisan attacks. It is also not the venue for personal attacks either.

The terrible comedian tried to defend herself on Twitter and she really ended up illustrating everything that was wrong with her performance. Here is a pic of tweet she sent out the day after the event-

“Her despicable behavior.” Really? So she was there to push the narrative that the behavior of the White House press secretary is “despicable.” Wow, the MC really doesn’t understand the history of the dinner at all.

Chairman of The Hill congressional newspaper sent a letter to the Executive Director of the White House Correspondents’ Association. In the letter he says,

The dinner must be non-partisan and done without hostility and personal animus toward the party that occupies the White House  — regardless of who is in power.

We recall fondly how past dinners were tremendous spectacles of dignity that were enjoyed by all.

Comedians headlining those dinners were sharp and made fun of both the media and the Commander-in-Chief in a way that could induce laughs while not being so offensive and vulgar that C-SPAN actually cut off its radio broadcast, as was the case this year for the first time ever.

The kind of jokes told by this year’s headliner, Michelle Wolf, were out of line for an event that’s supposed to be fun — and fair.

Based on what Americans witnessed on national television at Saturday night’s dinner, a once-fine evening celebrating the strong, free press the WHCA speaks of has turned into an angry display and ad-hominem attacks.

A solid majority of journalists from the left and right have condemned this year’s comedian and rightly so.

He also said in the letter-

In short, there’s simply no reason for us to participate in something that casts our profession in a poor light. Major changes are needed to the annual event.

That’s an appropriate response to a shameful display of hard-line partisan attacks. The MC was just another typical angry liberal who is still upset that her Golden Calf lost in 2016. Next year we hope the dinner will be hosted by a real comedian who actually understands what the dinner represents.
