ERA Fails In House Committee

Once again, the Equal Rights Amendment ratification resolution does not make it out of Virginia’s House Privileges and Elections committee.

The sunset clause on the ERA has expired. It would be unconstitutional for a committee in charge of passing legitimate bills and resolutions to ignore this simple fact. Passing by indefinitely, as it is called, is the appropriate move.

Last week the State Senate was wrong to vote the ERA out of committee. It then passed the full Senate. ERA supporters were getting excited. But all they have to do is read the 14th Amendment. In America, women have equal rights. It is inaccurate to say otherwise. Supporters, such as US Senator Tim Kaine, have failed to list one example of how women don’t have the same rights as men. It’s a failure of messaging. I’ve been accused of hating women and wanting to suppress women all because I believe women have equal rights. That makes no sense.

The ERA is built on a false premise. I wrote about it last week, article linked here.

But, of course, the radical left is not accepting defeat. They are attacking the donors of the four Republicans who voted to pass by the ERA. The committee did its job properly. But the left feels the need to attack, attack, attack.

Following the rules and respecting the law are not always easy. Glad to see the resolve of those who voted against the ERA. In this case, the left wants to brand anyone who disagrees with the constitutional principles of Equal Protection and Due Process found in the 14th Amendment as someone who hates women. I love women, I love this country, and I respect both too much to agree with the false premise that women are second-class citizens. This is America. Women already have equal rights.
