Culpeper GOP Passes Resolutions Calling For The Resignations Of Hanger, Vogel Over Medicaid Vote

Last week Culpeper County Republican Committee passed Resolutions censuring State Senators Emmett Hanger and Jill Vogel for their votes to expand Medicaid in Virginia.

Greene County Republican Committee has already passed a similar Resolution censuring Hanger. But Culpeper’s Resolutions go two steps further by calling for Hanger and Vogel to resign immediately and the committee promises to deny the senators any help on any future campaigns. Now that’s some really strong language.

Resolutions like this are not seen everyday from a local Republican Party unit. One has to wonder if these Resolutions are against the Party Plan and therefore could jeopardize the Culpeper unit’s charter with the Republican Party of Virginia.

Here are the last two parts of Culpeper’s Resolution for Hanger, then Vogel-

Be it further resolved that for his actions on the floor of the Virginia State Senate on May 30, 2018, being instrumental in bringing about Obamacare’s Medicaid Expansion, this Committee holds no confidence in Senator Hanger’s abilities to continue to represent Culpeper County, and hereby asks for his immediate resignation as Senator for the 24th District; and

Be it further resolved that the Culpeper County Republican Committee, as a body, will deny Emmett Hanger support for any future campaign for elected office.

Be it further resolved that for her dishonest actions on the floor of the Virginia State Senate on May 30, 2018, designed to deliberately mislead her constituents about her support for Obamacare’s Medicaid Expansion, this Committee holds no confidence in Senator Vogel’s abilities to continue to represent Culpeper County, and hereby asks for her immediate resignation as Senator for the 27th District; and

Be it further resolved that the Culpeper County Republican Committee, as a body, will deny Jill Vogel support for any future campaign for elected office.

Don’t mess with Culpeper.

UPDATE- I had reached out to the author of these Resolutions asking if there could be any kind of challenge to the Culpeper County Republican Committee’s charter. He responded after publication by saying, “Quite frankly, I hope there’s a challenge. It’ll show who cares more about the creed and who cares more about re-electing incumbents who vote like Democrats.”

Right on. Again, don’t mess with Culpeper.
