Campbell Elected Delegate In VA24

Rockbridge County Supervisor Ronnie Campbell has won the special election tonight in House of Delegates District 24. Campbell, the Republican nominee, won with around 60% of the vote (not all returns were in at time of publication). He will be begin serving the 24th District this coming January when the General Assembly session convenes.

This win means Republicans will maintain their razor-thin one seat majority in the House of Delegates.

Campbell will have to start his re-election campaign right away. His term is to fill the vacancy created by Congressman-elect Ben Cline’s promotion to the US House of Representatives, which ends this year.

Campbell may have a challenger for the Republican nomination, regardless of how he votes during this coming session. This time around he won the Republican nomination by only one vote over Amherst County Supervisor Jimmy Ayers. It appears as though Ayers may try again. A Republican Party activist was petitioning voters at the polls today to encourage the Republican Legislative District Committee to select a state-run primary for the nomination this coming spring, instead of the party process method which Campbell won. Whichever the method, Campbell will have his hands full as a freshman Delegate who will need to rev up a campaign right away, short honeymoon indeed.

Congrats to Delegate-elect Ronnie Campbell for holding this seat for Republicans and best of luck to him in the upcoming General Assembly session.
